That's just the conclusion I've come to in my short time studying this sport.
rotation is very effective if you have control over your opponent with your wrist.you must use your rotator with your hand & wrist control to give the highest damage to your opponent, otherwise your rotator will possibly be melted in your opponent's hand.with a strong wrist you will bring your opponent's hand down to your rotator's strongest point to apply maximal pressure.also in armwrestling your opponent's hand is not your only target.you cant win without opening your opponent's arm down to pad.so your wrist is your most important weapon to control your opponent's arm power, and your wrist is your rotator's assistant to provide the best position for it.just imagine two armwrestling arms at the beginning position of the match.both at about 90 degree angles and again imagine that one curls the other arm into his angle.now you have two arms with different angles, one with a great advantage while other with a great disadvantage.of course that your rotator is also important to not to be curled but again your wrist what provides your rotator to perform at it's best.since the rotator is very important as you mentioned you also need to realise that wrist is the thing to control rotator.strongest point to use your rotator is where your thumb locates to your front wrist.your goal is not only to rotate your forearm but is to make it most effective on your opponent.if you lose your wrist you can still use your rotator but it will not be at it's maximal effect on your opponent's wrist because toprolling a wrist is not always possible with back pressure or rotation but also by hand & wrist control on your opponent's front wrist-arm.watch John vs Denis match carefully.John has his rotation dominance over Denis' hand - wrist and the moment that John also gets wrist control then his rotator becomes too much for Denis.but the times that John also lost his wrist made John's rotator less effective because his target got away from his strongest rotator applying point.
your wrist is your steering wheel, which is your main weapon.and it makes the rest of important factors more effective.here Umar Shakmanov shows how to make a rotator effective at it's best, against the best hook puller ever.
